In addition to all the activities you can enjoy on the water, the area also offers a sea of nature experiences on land. So whether you want to go on foot, by bike, or by car, we have a selection of the various outdoor activities available in the area.
The supply of MTB trails and MTB activities in Silkeborg is one of the best in Denmark. Skyttehuset Outdoor Camp is located between Denmark’s Roof and Vesterskoven in Silkeborg, where there are mountain bike trails that match all technical levels. In Vesterskoven, you can find Denmark’s longest descent at 1.4 kilometers. You can also visit Silkeborg Bikepark, which is a fantastic fun playground on 2 wheels. The combination of old heath stretches, magnificent forests, the hilly landscape, and many beautiful lakes can only be found here in Søhøjlandet. Just lace up your hiking boots and get out to experience a lot of nature. The Himmelbjergruten literally runs right through Skyttehusets Outdoor Camp. The Himmelbjergruten is a total of 52 kilometers of hiking trail that winds along the Silkeborg lakes. Slåensø is just 1.5 km from Skyttehuset and is an obvious hiking route. Slåensø is Denmark’s cleanest lake, along with Grane Langsø. On the trip around Slåensø, it is possible to climb Kongestolen (82 m). At the top, there is a fantastic view over the lake and Borresø. It is also easy to take the Solfærgen ferry to the other side of the lakes and hike in Nordskoven and on Sindbjerg/Stoubjerg, which is particularly beautiful during the heather period.
The area around Skyttehusets Outdoor Camp is the perfect running place. Whether you prefer asphalt, gravel, or forest, you will find it all here, including child-friendly paths, for example, around Slåensø, as well as very challenging trails towards Silkeborg and Himmelbjerget. Fantastic forest paths, smaller asphalt roads, bike paths and the old mid -Jutland rail lines have become paved cycling routes that take cyclists through the beautiful landscapes of Søhøjland. If you easily want to go to Silkeborg, you can sail over with the sun ferry and cycle along the coastal road through Sejs Svejbæk to Silkeborg town . The route is 8 km. If you love the thrill of skateboarding, scootering, rollerblading, or BMX, Silkeborg SkatePark is the place to be. With its 6,000 square meters, the skatepark is the largest in Denmark. Approximately 1.5 kilometers from Skyttehusets Outdoor Camp lies Slåen Sø, which is Denmark’s cleanest lake. There is about four kilometers around the lake, which invites a beautiful hike with the viewpoint Kroghs Bænk. The bathing areas are extremely child-friendly with bathing piers, sandy beaches, toilet, and changing facilities.
