At Skyttehusets Outdoor Camp, we are proud to be Greenstay certified, which confirms our commitment to sustainability and the preservation of the beautiful nature that makes our campsite unique. Since we took over the site at the beginning of 2024, we have been working purposefully to implement environmentally friendly initiatives that ensure a greener future for both our guests and the environment. Below, you can read more about the global goals we are working with and the measures we plan to implement over the next few years to achieve an even more sustainable future.
Goal 7 is to ensure that everyone has access to reliable, sustainable, and modern energy at an affordable price. Infrastructure needs to be expanded, and technology must be upgraded to provide modern, renewable, and sustainable energy supply. Energy efficiency must be improved. Examples of upcoming initiatives include: • Replacing the heating source with an air-to-water heat pump • Replacing lighting with LED • LED solar lights on boat docks • Energy-efficient washing machines and dryers from external suppliers • Measuring energy consumption once a month • Solar panels on the dormitory building • Charger for electric cars.
Goal 12 is to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. We need to produce and consume our goods and resources more efficiently and manage the way we dispose of toxic waste and pollutants. There must be environmentally sound management of chemicals and waste throughout their life cycle. Furthermore, there should be sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources. Examples of upcoming initiatives: • New waste station with easier sorting into multiple fractions • Renovate existing buildings instead of demolishing them using sustainable materials • Increased focus on sorting and storage. • Increased focus on food waste • Minimize the use of batteries and fluorescent tubes, replace with LED • LED in all indoor lamps • Greater focus on suppliers’ use of packaging.
Goal 13 is to act quickly to combat climate change and its consequences. Mechanisms should be promoted that can increase the capacity for effective planning and management related to climate change. The capacity of businesses should be improved in terms of mitigation, adaptation, and damage limitation as a result of climate change. Examples of upcoming initiatives: • Replace the heating pump toilet building • Replace gasoline lawnmower with electric robot mower • Minimize printing in-house and produce printed materials with an external supplier on sustainable paper • Replace the heating source in cabins 1, 2, and 3 with a heat pump • Replace the heating source in cabins 4, 5, and 6 with a heat pump.
Goal 15 is to protect, restore, and support the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, combat desertification, halt land degradation, and halt the loss of biodiversity. Conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems must be ensured. Immediate and significant action must be taken to limit the degradation of natural habitats, stop the loss of biodiversity, and protect and prevent the extinction of endangered species. Examples of upcoming initiatives include: • Incorporating more areas as “wild” nature. Not mowed • Wild areas where weeds are allowed to grow • Fallen branches collected for insect hotels • Visibility and collaboration with local actors focusing on nature experiences • Clearer signage regarding waste and the site’s intention for sustainability. • Clear information to guests about sustainability, waste, bathing, dishwashing with consideration, turning off lights, etc.
Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals is about spreading information and knowledge about the goals and sustainability practices among guests and employees. Examples of upcoming initiatives: • The venue should have clear signage at the entrance or in the reception regarding the sustainability certification scheme. • It should be easy to find information about the sustainability certification scheme and the venue’s overall initiatives and goals on the company’s online platforms. • Staff should be trained and informed about the sustainability certification scheme and how they can contribute, particularly on topics such as waste sorting, cleaning products, and water and energy conservation, with the aim of guiding guests.
